Review-2016
Medium-Felt, light bulb
Dimensions-Flexible based on space
Description:
Felt has long been used as a traditional insulation material by Mongolians and those living in the Gobi Desert before the advent of urbanization. Historically associated with warmth and shelter, felt carries the memory of pre-urban ways of living. As cities expand into rural regions, they bring convenience and modern infrastructure, but also replace aspects of traditional culture. Review – 2016 responds to this transformation by contrasting materials and visual language. Soft felt surfaces, simplified silhouettes, abstract forms, and vibrant colors evoke warmth, intimacy, and nostalgia, standing in opposition to the cold, rigid presence of concrete architecture and standardized urban space. This work explores urbanization in Inner Mongolia, creating a quiet space for reflection on cultural continuity, displacement, and the fragile balance between modernization and preservation.
